What a relief. Today sits at a very manageable 86 with a chance of storms, and the mild stretch continues into the week, 85 and sunny Monday, 91 and mostly sunny Tuesday. Nothing close to the extreme heat we just came through.

We owe you a correction. Since mid-July, we have mentioned the City of Basehor's "Improved Roads. Better Parks. Brighter Basehor" sales tax election several times as an upcoming vote on November 4. It turns out that election already took place, on November 4, 2025, not this year. The promotional banner is still posted on parts of the city's website, which is what led us to keep treating it as ahead of us. We are sorry for the repeated mix up.

Here is what we can confirm actually happened. There were two separate ballot questions, one for a streets sales tax and one for a parks sales tax, each a half percent with a 10 year sunset. According to a Leavenworth Times headline from November 6, 2025, one measure passed and the other failed. We were not able to confirm from public sources which one passed, but Basehor's combined sales tax rate did increase from 8.5 percent in 2025 to 9 percent in 2026, which lines up with one of the two half percent measures now being collected.

After the Extreme Heat Warning we just came through, today and the next couple of days feel like a genuine gift. Highs in the mid 80s to low 90s, more typical for mid August, with a decent chance of rain today helping settle the dust.

The city's summer concert series has one more date on the books. Third Thursdays: Concerts on the Lawn featuring Damien Gunn lands on Thursday, August 20, at the Civic Campus, the actual third Thursday of the month. Food trucks and lawn games typically precede the music, free to attend.
