The National Weather Service upgraded our area to an Extreme Heat Warning overnight - a step above the advisory we've had all weekend. It runs until 7am tomorrow, with heat index values reaching up to 113 degrees today. Today's high lands near 99.

This is serious heat. Stay in air conditioning during peak hours, avoid strenuous outdoor activity, and check on relatives and neighbors, especially those without reliable AC. Relief is close: Tuesday drops to a much more manageable 92, right as the fair opens.

The weekend's Heat Advisory has been upgraded to an Extreme Heat Warning - the National Weather Service's more serious classification - issued yesterday at 11:36am and running until 7am Tuesday. Heat index values are expected to reach up to 113 degrees today.

The NWS instruction is direct: drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Heat-related illness risk rises sharply during extreme heat events like this one, especially for older adults, young children, and anyone without reliable air conditioning.
