I'm 63 With $1.5M. Can I Spend $10K a Month?

You’ve saved $1.5 million. Now comes the real test.

Can it produce $10,000 a month, or will that pace drain your portfolio?

Most retirees do not get a clear answer until it is too late.

The issue is not just how much you have. It is whether your portfolio was built to pay you, not just grow.

That difference can determine whether your money lasts decades or starts breaking down early.

Sequence of returns, taxes on withdrawals, healthcare costs, and whether the 4% rule still applies all play a role.

Fiduciary advisors created a breakdown showing what drives sustainable income and why the same $1.5M can produce very different outcomes.

If you have $1M or more invested, do not guess.

🏗️ Update: The BLHS Expansion Is Finally Finished

Back in mid-July we told you the new three-story multipurpose building at Basehor-Linwood High School was on track to wrap up construction. We can now close that loop: the addition, funded by Bond 2024 and roughly doubling the size of the high school, is complete and ready for the new school year.

The Early Learning Center's expansion is also finished ahead of the 2026-27 year, adding capacity for a district that's dealt with long preschool waitlists in recent years. Both projects are part of a run of bond-funded growth USD 458 has undertaken over the past decade as the district has become one of the fastest-growing in the county.

🏆 State of the District: A Record Grad Rate & Seven Star Awards

Superintendent Chris Vignery gave the district's annual State of the School District update recently, and the numbers are strong: 228 students graduated this year with a 94.6% graduation rate, and USD 458 remains the only school district in Kansas to earn all seven Kansans Can Star Recognition awards.

Student-athletes reached state finals in football, boys and girls wrestling, softball, golf, and track and field. And a nice community touch: students in a geometry-in-construction class, partnering with Chamber member PCDI and the City of Basehor, built a playhouse fire station now headed for Basehor City Park - with plans to add a new play structure there each school year.
