Meme of the Day

Meme of the Day: Oldest brick house in the county, still standing since 1879

Today brings a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1pm, with rainfall between a quarter and half an inch possible overnight into this morning. Skies turn partly sunny in the afternoon with a high near 84. Tonight clears out to mostly clear skies with a low around 67, a nice stretch of weather for an evening walk once the storms clear.

🧱 Did You Know: Basehor's Founding Brothers Built the First Brick House in Leavenworth County

Basehor was founded in 1889 by brothers Reuben and Ephraim Basehor, Pennsylvania Dutch immigrants who came to Kansas in 1854. Ephraim eventually bought up farmland in the area, and when the railroad came through in 1889, he platted out a town site on his own land and dedicated it that November.

A decade before the town was even founded, the Basehor brothers built the first brick house in all of Leavenworth County back in 1879. That house is still standing today near 155th Terrace and Ripley Street, a quiet reminder of just how far back Basehor's roots run.
