This Week's Weather
Basehor, KS — Week of June 15, 2026
It's a warm, mostly sunny week with one day to keep an eye on: Wednesday is shaping up to be the hottest day, pushing into the low 90s with a chance of strong afternoon and evening storms (the broader KC area is under a marginal severe risk for that day — think gusty winds and large hail are possible, not guaranteed). Thursday cools back into the low-to-mid 80s as that system clears out, though if you're headed to the 3rd Thursdays concert that evening, it's worth checking the radar before you head out. From Friday on, it looks sunny, warm, and pleasant — great news if you've got Golf-ish on your Saturday calendar. Overall: sunscreen and a water bottle for most of the week, but maybe an umbrella in the car on Wednesday.

This Week's Highlight

Grab a lawn chair — 3rd Thursdays is back at the Civic Campus Amphitheater (1600 N. 158th St.) on Thursday, June 18, featuring the Ronni Ward Band. This monthly series has quickly become one of the best reasons to gather with neighbors on a summer evening, with live music drifting across the lawn as the sun goes down.
It's free and family-friendly — bring a blanket, pack a picnic, and let the kids run around the Civic Campus grounds before the show. The exact start time wasn't listed in our research, so double-check basehorparksandrec.org for the schedule before you head out, especially with Wednesday's storms potentially lingering into Thursday.
Either way, this is exactly the kind of small-town evening that makes Basehor feel like Basehor — so mark your calendar and we'll see you on the lawn.
Community News
Splash pad season is here. The Civic Campus Splash Pad (1600 N. 158th St.) is open daily from sunrise to sundown through September 30, and it's completely free. With Wednesday's forecast pushing into the 90s, this might be the perfect excuse to cool off with the kids.
A Basehor-Linwood teacher earns statewide recognition. Michelle Kelly, a reading interventionist at Glenwood Ridge Elementary, has been named a 2026 Kansas Master Teacher — one of just seven educators honored across the entire state. Congratulations, Mrs. Kelly!
Big things coming for USD 458. At the recent State of the School District presentation, Superintendent Chris Vignery shared that the Early Learning Center expansion is on track to be finished before the 2026–27 school year. Basehor-Linwood High School also has a new indoor field facility, a dedicated cafeteria, additional science and math classrooms, and a new strength and conditioning center in the works.
Reminder: utility bills due, City Hall closed Friday. The City of Basehor reminds residents that utility bills are due June 22, and City Administration offices will be closed Friday, June 19 in observance of Juneteenth.
Storm sirens going quiet — for testing, anyway. Leavenworth County Emergency Management is pausing its routine monthly outdoor warning siren tests for June and July during the FIFA World Cup. Don't worry — sirens will still sound for actual severe weather or emergencies, including any storms later this week.
