Basehor-Linwood High School's senior CareCats walked the halls of the district's middle school and elementary buildings yesterday and today, dressed in their graduation caps and gowns ahead of Saturday's commencement ceremony.
The tradition marks the official end of their mentoring work in the schools and gives the seniors one last chance to visit the younger students they've been matched with.
About the CareCats program
CareCats are juniors and seniors at Basehor-Linwood High School who serve as mentors and volunteers throughout their final two years. The program pairs them with younger students for studying, conversation, and connection — a role-model relationship designed to promote anti-bullying through positive peer mentorship.
The graduation walk is a small ceremony with a big meaning: a chance for elementary and middle schoolers to cheer on the mentors who've shown up for them, and for the seniors to say a proper goodbye before they head into the next chapter.
Congratulations to the Class of 2026 CareCats — and to every student who'll be walking the stage on Saturday.
